About the Author:

Roger Hargreaves (1935-1988) was a British author and illustrator best known for his beloved Mr Men and Little Miss book series. He was born in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, England, and spent much of his childhood drawing and creating stories. Hargreaves went on to study at the Leeds College of Art and Design before starting his career as a copywriter and cartoonist.

In 1971, Hargreaves wrote and illustrated his first "Mr Men" book, "Mr Tickle," which was an instant success. The series eventually grew to include 50 characters, each with their unique personality and quirks, such as "Mr Happy," "Little Miss Sunshine," and "Mr Grumpy." Hargreaves' colourful illustrations and simple storytelling style resonated with children and adults alike, and the "Mr Men" series became a beloved staple of children's literature.

Hargreaves continued to write and illustrate books until his death in 1988 at the age of 53. His son, Adam Hargreaves, has since taken over the "Mr Men" and "Little Miss" franchises, continuing his father's legacy.

Aside from his work in children's literature, Hargreaves was also a successful advertising copywriter and cartoonist. He created the popular Timbuctoo comic strip, which ran in the Daily Mail for over ten years. Hargreaves' creativity and sense of humour permeated all aspects of his work, making him a beloved figure in the worlds of advertising, comics, and children's literature.

In 2021, the Royal Mail released a set of commemorative stamps to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first "Mr Men" book. The stamps feature some of Hargreaves' most iconic characters and serve as a testament to the enduring legacy of his work.
