Wiley & Sons Inc. also popular as Wiley Books is an American multinational publishing company founded in 1807 that focuses on academic publishing and instructional materials. The company also produces books, journals, and encyclopaedias, in print and digital, as well as online products and services, training materials, and educational materials for undergraduate, graduate, and continuing academic papers.
The company was first established in 1807 when Charles Wiley opened a print shop in Manhattan. The company was the publisher of 19th century American literary figures like James Fenimore Cooper, Washington Irving, Herman Melville, and Edgar Allan Poe, as well as of legal, religious, and other non-fiction titles. The firm however only took its current name in 1865 and Wiley & Sons Inc. eventually shifted its publishing focus to scientific, technical, and engineering subject areas, abandoning its literary interests.
Through the 20th century, the company expanded its publishing activities to the sciences, and higher education and managed to acquire several other academic publication houses across the world. More recently in 2021, Wiley acquired Hindawi and J&J Editorial. Wiley & Sons Inc. marked its bicentennial in 2007. In conjunction with the anniversary, the company published Knowledge for Generations: Wiley and the Global Publishing Industry, 1807-2007, depicting Wiley's role in the evolution of publishing against a social, cultural, and economic backdrop. Whilst academic books are their niche, Wiley Books also have some incredible educational and self help titles that we believe can help teens and parents navigate life.
One of the many interesting and diverse titles from the Wiley publication house that teens will love is, Diary of a Brilliant Kid : Top Secret Guide to Awesomeness. Life, universe and awesomeness—the Diary of a Brilliant Kid is the "tweenager's" atlas for navigating life as a teenager. This interactive collection of stories, quotes, theories and yes, science, guides your child through the difficult years between ages 8 and 12 to help them make sense of themselves and the world around them. Everything is changing! And that's okay! It's actually more than okay—it's exciting. The changes your teen is going through are the opening salvo of your child’s gradual transition into "grownup," and it's the perfect time to help them define who they are, how they think and how they choose to face the world. Is it a lot? Yes. But this book can help your teen sort things out and come out the other side shining. The journal format gives away the plot. Spoiler Alert: the brilliant kid is your child! Buy them this book and help them realise they are a unique collection of talents and dreams and wants and surprises, and that they have an entire lifetime of awesomeness ahead of them!
