Take it from the top!
To be a deeply entrenched fan of F1, you must first understand it, young Padawan. The best way to learn about being a fan is to be a driver. Why not read Jason Plato's How Not to Be a Professional Racing Driver and learn about all the dos and a lot of don'ts in the racing world? This book is hilarious and will have you laughing so hard that you'll clutch your stomach. Our favourite racing bad boy and legend, Plato, will give you all the F1 101 you will ever need.
Though if you were looking to learn more about the racers, who better than Lewis Hamilton himself, the poster boy for F1? He holds the record for most wins (105), pole positions (104), and podium finishes (202). All that to say…he is a big deal. Read his autobiography, My Story, which transports us back to his explosive arrival on the Formula 1 scene that had made front-page headlines. In My Story, for the first time, Hamilton opens up about his stunning debut season in Grand Prix racing, as well as his dad, Anthony, his home life and his early years. Please read one of our favourite memoirs.
Brick by Brick
Another fantastic aspect of the world of racing is the superpowered vehicles that give our drivers the strength they need. From Ferrari, McLaren, to Red Bull (not the drink!), the constructors, designers, and pit team put in an incredible amount of time developing the machinery to secure that podium position.
If you ever want to know the mechanics of building and maintaining such horsepower, check out How to Build a Car by Adrian Newey. It focuses on Newey, the world's foremost designer for Formula 1, a genius in the engineering world and how his mind works in the process of creating these almost indestructible powerhouses.
Add a little love
Who would we be if we couldn't give you some fiction books about the world of racing, especially a love story or two (maybe four)? Enter the Dirty Air world by Lauren Asher, following four different drivers, their love of the sport and their hopeless devotion to the women who come in and shake up their lives.
That's all from us, racing fans. From the team here at Books2Door, we hope to see you on the podium next time!
