Biff, Chip, and Kipper are the main characters in the Read with Oxford books, which are part of a reading program designed for young children. The books are designed to help children develop reading skills and to encourage a love of reading from an early age. They are perfect for children aged 5-7 who are starting to build their reading-aloud skills. The stories are engaging and fun, with relatable characters and exciting adventures that children will enjoy. The interactive nature of the books, with prompts and activities throughout the text, helps children develop their reading and comprehension skills while fostering a love of reading that will stay with them throughout their lives. Check out our learn-to-read page for more books to help develop children's comprehension.

Biff is the eldest of the siblings and is often portrayed as a confident and independent young girl. She enjoys going on adventures and is always eager to learn new things. Biff's character is used to introduce new vocabulary and concepts to children, and her experiences in the stories are designed to help children relate to the characters and encourage them to engage with the text.

Chip is Biff's younger brother and is usually portrayed as a bit of a joker. He enjoys playing tricks on his siblings and is always up for some fun. Chip's character provides a sense of humour to the stories, and his experiences often involve problem-solving and working with others to achieve a goal.

Kipper is the youngest of the siblings and is often portrayed as innocent and curious. He loves exploring the world around him and is always eager to learn new things. Kipper's character is used to introduce children to the basics of reading, such as letter sounds and recognition, and his experiences in the stories are designed to help children develop phonemic awareness.

The Biff, Chip, and Kipper: Read with Oxford Stage 2 books follow the three siblings as they go on a series of exciting adventures, exploring the world around them and learning about new things along the way. The stories are written in a way that is easy for young children to understand, with simple sentence structures and vocabulary that is appropriate for their reading level. The books are designed to be interactive, with questions and prompts throughout the text to encourage children to engage with the story and develop their comprehension skills. Each book also includes activities and games designed to reinforce the concepts introduced in the story, such as matching games and writing exercises.

Biff, Chip, Kipper and Floppy, the energetic dog, have been guiding and providing support for children across the globe in learning to read, these young children's characters have been encouraging kids to develop a love of reading for the last 30 years. These characters are from Oxford Reading Tree, and these beloved and friendly bunch were created back in 1986 by author Roderick Hunt and the incredible illustrator Alex Brychta who created the beautiful artwork to support the story and context. More than 30 million children now read the series, and over 100 stories have been published! He wants to stay connected with children today and keep them engaged and interested in their stories.

The first books by Hunt were published in 1986, but spiked in popularity in particular from 2015-2016 after these books were borrowed more than one million times, making it the first time he has appeared in the top 10. Now, it has been translated into many languages including more than 120 countries. The books were initially aimed at children between ages 4 to 9, and they formed part of an English language syllabus in line with the National Curriculum.
