Space for Children
It can be difficult to explain the importance of space and the universe to adults, never mind trying to explain it to an inquisitive child. That being said, there is a wide range of books to make exploring space with your little stargazers much easier. A great starting point for little ones, specifically 0-5-year-olds, is Miles Kelly Publishing's Children's First Facts Collection 3 Books Box Set With Posters. First Space Book contains fantastic illustrations, fascinating facts about planets, stars and space travel, and a solar system wall poster, perfect for your little astronauts' bedroom wall. This set also contains First Dinosaur Book and First Atlas.
For older children, check out Usborne Beginners Science. This fantastic set contains ten informative books jam-packed with fascinating facts, detailed images, and illustrations to help your future scientist learn about planet Earth and beyond. This set features books about the solar system, astronomy, planet earth, life in space, the sun, moon and stars.
Famous Biographies and Studies
Many brilliant minds have questioned what we thought we knew about the universe and proven there is much more to it than we can ever comprehend. With that in mind, some fantastic books explore the known facts about space and the universe. There is still so much we do not know, with technologies advancing every day, which allows us to learn even more of the vast unknown. That being said, some fantastic books explore the universe by some of the greatest thinkers.
One of the leading texts in scientific study is Stephen Hawking's A Brief History Of Time: From Big Bang To Black Holes. This revolutionary book has introduced millions to the universe and all its wonders. Hawking discussed fundamental topics like space and time and critical cosmological theories like general relativity and quantum mechanics. Ever thought about the fact that right now, we are orbiting a black hole? A Brief History of Black Holes: And Why Nearly Everything You Know About Them is Wrong by University of Oxford astrophysicist Dr Becky Smethurst. Smethurst charts the scientific breakthroughs that have uncovered the weird and wonderful world of black holes, from the collapse of massive stars to the first photographs of a black hole in 2019.
If you want to learn more about what it feels like to be in space, what better way than by reading stories from the people who have been? There have been numerous astronauts that have explored different corners of space. The first human in space was in 1961, his name was Yuri Gagarin, and he was a soviet pilot. For more information, check out Beyond: The Astonishing Story of the First Human to Leave Our Planet and Journey into Space by Stephen Walker. For an in-person account of what it was like to be in space, check out the phenomenal autobiography Limitless: The Autobiography by Tim Peake. Peake is a British astronaut who went into space in 2015, but before this, he was an Apache pilot, flight instructor and test pilot for the army. This fantastic autobiography explores what life in space is really like and recalls how he felt when he was up there.
