Shirley Hughes Books 

A collection page to celebrate the books by English author and illustrator Shirley Hughes. She wrote more than fifty books, which have sold more than 11.5 million copies, and illustrated more than two hundred. Hughes's art style encompasses the cheeky expressions of a child up to no good. With pigtails sticking in the air and muddy knees, Shirley Hughes's art has resonated with many parents and children over the years. 

Throughout her career, she won many awards and received many accolades, including a CBE for literature in 2017, and she won the inaugural BookTrust lifetime achievement award in 2015. Hughes passed away in February 2022. She has had such a huge impact on children's literature, picture books and illustration, which has reached many generations. Many famous authors, including Michael Morpurgo, Julia Donaldson and Philip Pullman, paid tribute to her after her death.

Shirley Hughes illustrated the series My Naughty Little Sister. Written by Dorothy Edwards, the series is told by an older girl, roughly 6-7-years-old, about her troublesome little sister. They highlight a clear distinction between right and wrong, making them a perfect series to read aloud together at bedtime.
