Luckily, we have some recommendations to help you get started! Your next best read is only a click away…

Ages 0-5

We have some fantastic Robot books for kids aged 0-5, such as the That’s Not My Plane/Car/Robot Books by Fiona Watt and Rachel Wells. This three-book collection set contains the coolest Robot Books around. Meet five cool robots in this fun addition to the much-loved That’s Not My…series. Perfect for babies and toddlers, these sensory books contain bold illustrations, patches to stroke and hidden animals to spot on every page, all designed to develop sensory and language awareness.

Ages 7-9

For slightly older children, we have an excellent selection of books to choose from. Check out The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. Say hello to your new favourite robot, Roz. After a hurricane’s brutal wind and lashing rain sink a cargo ship loaded with hundreds of crates, one washed up to Wild Rock Island. Call it fate or destiny, some playful otters stumble upon the broken box and -click!- they activate Roz. In the aftermath of the crash, Roz discovers a single egg signalling the start of a bond between the robot and the surviving gosling. With short chapters for easy reading, this enchanting tale explores many important themes of empathy in a heartwarming story of what happens when nature and technology collide.

If it’s killer robots that your little ones are after, you have to check out the Five Nights at Freddy’s Fazbear Frights 4 Books Boxed Set by Scott Cawthon. This collection features four volumes, each with three frightening short stories, integrating characters from well-loved survival horror franchises. Readers familiar with the well-loved video game will meet familiar fan-favourite characters in a new twist of terrifying tales. Join a host of new characters as they all navigate through the trials and tribulations of childhood and learn the hard way that in the world of Five Nights at Freddy’s, it’s always in the depth of loneliness where evil creeps in and attracts hungry monsters.

Teens and YA

For those older teens looking to delve into some of the robot classics, look no further than the works of Isaac Asimov- considered one of the fathers of robotics. His 1950’s I, Robot Series is one of the most influential science fiction books ever published. Combining nine short stories with a framing narrative, it introduced the famous Three Laws of Robotics to the world. Not only did it go on to inspire the real-world development of robotic engineering and artificial intelligence, but it also inspired generations of SF novelists since its publication over 70 years ago. For more classic reads, check out the book that inspired the hit film Blade Runner: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? By Philip K. Dick. World War Terminus had left the Earth devastated. Through its ruins, esteemed bounty hunter Rick Deckard is in search of renegade replicants- rogue humanoid robots that are a threat to the human population. His assignment: to “retire” them. It’s not an easy task when the androids disguise themselves as humans; Deckard’s assignment quickly turns into a nightmare kaleidoscope of subterfuge and deceit.
