About the author: Beatrix Potteris one of the most beloved authors in history who inspired millions of children around the globe. She had continued to capture our wonders and beautiful imaginations through her wonderful storytelling and elegant illustrated pages for over 100 years. Very few people are aware of Beatrix and her incredible life accomplishments that she achieved in her lifetime, in an era of suppression of women, inequality where women were not allowed to voice themselves. Despite these circumstances, Beatrix became an incredible role model, she worked hard to become an artist, storyteller, botanist, environmentalist, farmer and businesswoman. Beatrix faced remarkable hardships and came to be somebody to look up to for children around the world. She released her first book, The Tale of Peter rabbit in 1902 and went on to create a series of stories based on several animal characters including Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, Mr Jeremy Fisher and Tom Kitten. Her fun, playful and whimsical style were displayed in the stories she wrote and this had spread happiness and simplicity in the lives of children and became a childhood memory for many. Since 1984, over 150 million Beatrix Potter books have been sold around the world, and over 2 million Beatrix Potter books are sold year on year globally - that’s one Beatrix Potter book sold somewhere in the world every 15 seconds! As well as publishing, Beatrix was eager to license her own creations and it was herself who pushed these ideas forward rather than her publisher. Beatrix designed her first Peter Rabbit doll in 1903, registered this at the patent office and made Peter Rabbit the world’s oldest licensed literary character. She also explored other merchandise including tea sets, bedroom slippers and worked on developing products. She continued to develop board games, toys, painting books, and felt passionately that all merchandise should remain faithful to her franchise of Peter Rabbit to the best quality possible. She continued on to work on many other projects and became an active member of the National Trust and worked on protecting and preserving the buildings, farms and helped save many farms and rural areas from developers as she was impressed by her first visit to the Lake District and meeting its founder.
