Moomin Books

The Moomins were created by Tove Jansson, a Swedish-speaking Finnish author. She published a total of nine books in the series, along with five picture books. She began a comic strip in 1954, which she collaborated on with her brother Lars for two years, who then created it solo between 1961 and 1975.

As a visual artist, illustrator, painter and author; Tove Jansson expanded and transformed her artistic expression tirelessly up to the last years of her life. Her works are a reflection of an entire life philosophy, eliciting enthusiastic responses from children and adults alike, from across all countries where her works are known.

Tove Jansson is easily one of the best-known Finnish artists and also the most widely read Finnish authors. Her lifework is of immeasurable value because of the success she made as a writer, artist and cartoonist. Her most treasured works being the Moomins.

The Moomin books and novels have been translated from Swedish to English and in over fifty other languages and are widely popular specially amongst children. Whilst Tove wrote 12 other very popular novels and short stories during her career apart from Moomin books, including the acclaimed The Summer Book, it is the classic Moomin series that no child should have to miss out on.
