She went out on her own as an independent publisher, publishing both under her own name and in co-editions. The firm she founded continued as Frances Lincoln Publishers, based in London, until 2018.
In August 2011, The Quarto Group acquired Frances Lincoln Publishers, making it the Frances Lincoln Children's Book imprint. The firm has always been known for the list of illustrated gardening books it published, and for its illustrated children's books. Among these are David Litchfield's The Bear and the Piano, which won the 2016 Waterstones Children's Book Prize for Illustrated Books, and Lizzy Stewart's There's a Tiger in the Garden, which won the same prize in 2017.
Today, FLCB boasts of having sold over a multimillion copies of bestselling titles like; Little People, Big Dreams series and the New York Times Best Seller, This Book Is Anti-Racist. FLCB is regarded as one of the world’s most respected creators of picture books, illustrated books and gift titles that celebrate cultural diversity, as well as narrative nonfiction.
Given its reputation for quality literature, Frances Lincoln Children’s Books, UK is known to work only with the world’s most innovative illustrators and (visual) storytellers and the same is evident in the books they publish. Needless to say, the FLCB’s bestselling book list finds strong support from bookshops, libraries, international institutions and also us at Books2Door. Precisely why we have stocked up on all of FLCB’s books for children and young adults. Here are three of our absolute favourites…
A New York Times’ Bestseller that’s perfect for young adults to learn about racism and tolerance; This Book Is Anti-Racist : 20 lessons on how to wake up, take action, and do the work is a guided journal with more than 50 activities to support the reader’s anti-racism journey.
Allow your soon-to-be young adult to learn about social identities, the history of racism and resistance against it, and how they can use their anti-racist lens and voice to move the world toward equity and liberation. The book allows the readers to gain a deeper understanding of their anti-racist self as they progress through 20 chapters that spark introspection, reveal the origins of racism that we are still experiencing and gives its readers the courage and power to undo it. Each chapter builds on the previous one as the readers learn more about themselves and racial oppression. 20 activities get the reader thinking whilst also helping ‘em grow their knowledge. All one needs is a pen and paper.
Another great FLCB book to teach your child about the history of travel, migration and how it has impacted our world is A World Full of Journeys and Migrations by Quarto Generic. Since the dawn of time, people have travelled to distant lands for many different reasons; to escape war, famine or injustice, to find work, or to simply see new sights and have an adventure. But everyone who migrates does it to seek a brighter future. A World Full of Journeys is an illustrated book which tells some of the most fascinating stories of migration throughout history. From the very first humans who left Africa almost 70,000 years ago and moved around the world, to immigrants welcomed to America at Ellis Island, this book is packed with fascinating tales of human triumph told through beautiful illustrations.
The first book in the best-selling, award-winning 'Bear and the Piano' trilogy; The Bear and the Piano by David Litchfield is a great book to teach your child the values of home and family. Get the trilogy for your child and allow them to learn important life lessons from the protagonist bear. One day, a young bear stumbles upon something he has never seen before in the forest. As time passes, he teaches himself how to play the strange instrument, and eventually the beautiful sounds are heard by a father and son who are picnicking in the woods. The bear goes with them on an incredible journey to New York, where his piano playing makes him a huge star. He has fame, fortune and all the music in the world, but he misses the friends and family he has left behind. A moving tale of exploration and belonging from best-selling and critically acclaimed author David Litchfield.
