View full detailsThis section features all of our amazing collections of anthologies. Anthologies are collections of smaller works, which can be short works of art, poems, and shorter stories. Anthologies can consist of an amalgamation of various authors that follow a particular genre or a collection of short stories by the same author. Authors can participate to be a part of an anthology book, helping them get into the world of publishing their stories. In this wonderful category of Anthologies, we have tons of delightful titles such as Poems to Live Your Life By, I Am the Seed That Grew the Tree, and An Illustrated Treasury of Scottish Folk and Fairy Tales.
What are anthologies?
Anthologies or these special excerpts can revolve around specific themes which make each title unique and different from other books, such as areas on pets, Christmas, sports, certain occupations like athletes or nurses, and the list goes on. The writing style may follow a certain guideline, the publisher then creates the guidelines for the printing, graphic design, illustrations, and distribution.
Anthologies can incorporate many talented authors who are just starting out, when the book becomes a popular title and well known, then the author who was a part of the story can bring author awareness. Particularly if the author is trying to break into a new market or a subject that they are new to, working together on an anthology piece can really strengthen their career in that area in the beginning. Anthologies can also act as a sample or marketing strategy to showcase the writing style and skills of the author, readers who may be unfamiliar with the author can learn to love the author's writing style, which then brings the reader to research more into the author who wrote that segment.
What should I read?
If you’re not sure where to start, why not have a look at one of our bestselling anthologies, I Am The Seed That Grew The Tree, Selected by Fiona Waters (National Trust)? This beautiful hardback collection has 365 nature-themed poems, one for every day of the year. This book is the perfect bedtime read or even to read with your child to help them gain literary independence.
If it’s something more mythical fantasy you’re after, then check out An Illustrated Treasury of Scottish Folk and Fairy Tales. Written by award-winning children’s author Theresa Breslin, this anthology features some of the best-loved tales from all over Scotland. Retelling some of the most famed tales, each in an individual style, she presents a variety of moving, funny and enchanting fairytales. Soar with the goshawk, dive with the selkies, and battle with the Stoorworm, as each story is creatively brought to life with exquisite illustrations by Scottish fine artist Kate Leiper, brimming with otherworldly beauty.
