Alice Oseman Books

Alice Oseman and her YA work

Alice Oseman’s Young Adult books have taken the world by storm. With her increasing popularity, from her Heartstopper graphic novels to her YA novels, she has become a firm favourite for a wide range of age groups. Oseman’s books have been praised for their honesty when exploring themes such as teen friendships, mental health, sexuality and pressures teens can face in and outside of school.

Her first novel, Solitaire, was published in 2014 while Oseman was attending Durham University. It follows Tori Spring, who is a very unhappy and angry teenager. Solitaire has been credited as a frank and authentic novel. This book also includes the first appearances of Nick and Charlie, the stars of Heartstopper - Charlie is Tori’s brother.

In 2016, Oseman published her second novel, Radio Silence, which follows Frances as she is studying and preparing to attend an elite university. However, she is clouded by her goals and forgets who she is. Frances meets Aled, a timid genius behind her favourite podcast, and Frances quickly starts to feel what it means to be yourself and allow yourself to have friends. Oseman explores identity and the pressure to succeed in this coming-of-age novel.

I Was Born for This is Oseman’s third novel and follows Angel Rahimi and their favourite band, The Ark. However, frontman Jimmy Kaga-Ricci sees his dreams turn into a real-life nightmare. When Angel and Jimmy are unexpectedly thrust together, they will discover that dreams don’t always turn out the way you hoped and reality soon catches up to you.

In 2020, Alice published a semi-autobiographical novel called Loveless, following the main character as she begins university and comes to terms with her asexuality.

We have a collection of Alice Oseman’s four novels Solitaire, Radio Silence; I Was Born for This and Loveless

Alice Oseman always suggests reading the content warnings for her books. Her novels follow much darker themes, whereas Heartstopper is slightly more lighthearted and may not be suitable for everyone.

Alice Oseman’s number one bestselling graphic novel, Heartstopper, was first published in 2018 and has since received high praise. The ongoing webcomics follow Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson through their school years as their relationship develops as they spend more time together. The series tackles the struggles of many LGBTQIA+ teens, including bullying and homophobia, as well as questions of identity and mental illness.

Oseman has reportedly said she is working on volume five, the final instalment in the graphic novel series. We have Heartstopper Volumes 1-4 ready to order.

Oseman has also released two novellas linked to the Heartstopper series, Nick and Charlie and This Winter. Check out our Alice Oseman Heartstopper Collection 10 Book Set, which contains the four Heartstopper graphic novels and her six novels.
