Title in This Set:

  1. Grimwood
  2. Grimwood: Let the Fur Fly!
  3. Grimwood: Five Freakishly Funny Fables: World Book Day 2022

In Grimwood, the animals of the Grimwood forest must band together to save their home from a group of greedy humans who want to build a theme park on the land. In Grimwood: Let the Fur Fly!, the animals compete in a series of challenges against other animal teams in a nearby town. And Grimwood: Five Freakishly Funny Fables: World Book Day 2022 is a collection of five short stories set in the Grimwood forest.

The second book in the series, Grimwood: Let the Fur Fly! takes our animal heroes on a wild and wacky adventure to a nearby town, where they must compete in a series of challenges against other animal teams. But the competition is fierce, and our heroes must use all their skills and teamwork to come out on top. With laugh-out-loud humour and plenty of heart, this book is sure to be a hit with young readers.

Finally, Grimwood: Five Freakishly Funny Fables: World Book Day 2022 is a collection of five short stories set in the Grimwood forest. Each story is full of quirky characters, unexpected twists, and plenty of humour. From a clever rabbit who outsmarts a fox to a group of animals who must rescue a lost friend, these fables are a great way to introduce young readers to the world of Grimwood.

What makes the Grimwood books so special is the way that Nadia Shireen combines humour and heart in her storytelling. Each of the books has a unique cast of characters who are all wonderfully quirky and endearing.

But the books are not just funny - they also have a lot of heart. The relationships between the characters are rich and complex, and there are important messages about friendship, teamwork, and acceptance woven throughout each story. For example, in Grimwood, the animals must learn to work together and put aside their differences to save their home. And in Grimwood: Let the Fur Fly! our heroes must learn to trust each other and rely on their individual strengths to succeed.

The Grimwood books are also beautifully illustrated, with bright colours and bold lines that bring the characters and the forest to life. Nadia Shireen's artwork is playful and whimsical and perfectly captures the spirit of the stories.

About the author:

Nadia Shireen is a British author and illustrator who has gained recognition for her whimsical and charming children's books. She has written and illustrated several picture books, including Good Little Wolf, The Bumblebear, and the Grimwood series. Her work has been celebrated for its humour, heart, and distinctive illustrations.

Nadia Shireen was born in 1983 in London, England. Shireen was always drawn to art and storytelling, and she spent much of her childhood reading and drawing. She attended the University of Brighton, where she earned a degree in illustration. While at university, she developed her unique style, which combines bold, bright colours with expressive characters and whimsical details.

After completing her studies, Shireen worked as a freelance illustrator for several years, creating illustrations for a variety of publications and projects. She also began to develop her own stories, drawing on her love of fairy tales and folklore for inspiration.

Her first picture book, Good Little Wolf, was published in 2011. The book tells the story of a young wolf who is sent out into the world to prove himself by catching a little girl. However, when he meets the girl, he realizes that she is not what he expected, and the two become friends. Good Little Wolf was a critical and commercial success, earning Shireen a nomination for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and a spot on the shortlist for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize. The book was praised for its clever twist on the classic fairy tale trope of the big bad wolf, as well as Shireen's bold and expressive illustrations.

In 2012, Shireen published her second picture book, Hey, Presto! The book tells the story of a rabbit magician who must find a way to save his show when his assistant goes missing. Like Good Little Wolf, Hey, Presto! was praised for its humour, heart, and lively illustrations.

Shireen continued to publish new picture books over the next few years, including The Bumblebear and The Cow Who Fell to Earth. The Bumblebear tells the story of a friendly bear who accidentally eats a jar of magic honey and turns into a bumblebee. The book was praised for its charming illustrations and delightful story.

In 2019, Shireen published Billy and the Beast, a picture book that tells the story of a brave boy who sets out to rescue his beloved pet Mini Beast from the clutches of a fearsome beast. The book was a hit with both critics and readers, earning a spot on the shortlist for the Waterstones Children's Book Prize and the Sheffield Children's Book Award.

In 2020, Shireen published the first book in her Grimwood series, simply titled Grimwood. The book tells the story of a group of animal friends who live in the magical Grimwood forest, which is threatened by the arrival of a group of humans who want to build a theme park on the land.

The book was praised for its clever storytelling, vibrant illustrations, and memorable characters. It also earned a spot on the shortlist for the 2021 Waterstones Children's Book Prize.

Following the success of Grimwood, Shireen published the second book in the series, Grimwood: Let the Fur Fly! in 2021. In this book, the animal friends of Grimwood compete in a series of challenges against other animal teams in a nearby town.

From the publisher:

Grimwood

Fox cub siblings Ted and Nancy are on the run from Princess Buttons, the scariest street cat in the Big City. They flee for Grimwood, expecting to find refuge in the peaceful countryside. Instead, they are met with thieving eagles, dramatic ducks, riotous rabbits and a whole host of unusual characters. Grimwood is, weird. But when Princess Buttons track them down, Nancy and Ted and the animals of Grimwood must unite in a mind-bending race against time.

Grimwood: Let the Fur Fly!

Ted and Nancy love their new life in Grimwood – the forest where anything can happen. But the dastardly mayor of the neighbouring town, Twinklenuts, is on a mission to take over Grimwood and kick everyone out. Ted and Nancy must muster up bags of courage, rally their friends, and show off their tree-banking skills to save the home they’ve grown to love.

Grimwood: Five Freakishly Funny Fables: World Book Day 2022

Expect the unexpected, and be warned: you may laugh your head off.
