Meg and Mog is a beloved children's book series created by writer Helen Nicoll and illustrator Jan Pienkowski. The series follows the adventures of Meg, a witch, and her black cat, Mog, as they embark on various magical escapades. With its colourful illustrations and engaging stories, Meg and Mog has become a staple in children's literature, captivating readers for generations. this collection includes 10 of their magical adventures.

The first book in the series, Meg and Mog, was published in 1972 and introduced readers to the quirky duo. The story follows Meg as she prepares a spell for her witch's meeting, with Mog causing all sorts of trouble along the way. From accidentally turning Meg's breakfast into a frog to causing mayhem at the meeting itself, Mog's mischievous antics keep readers entertained throughout the book.

Over the years, the series has expanded to include numerous other books, each featuring Meg and Mog in a different adventure. One of the books in this amazing collection is Mog at the Zoo. The book tells the story of Meg the witch and her pet cat Mog, as they visit the zoo. As soon as Mog enters the zoo, he spots a group of animals and decides to explore on his own. Unfortunately, his curiosity and antics cause chaos throughout the zoo, leaving Meg and the zookeepers scrambling to fix things. Mog ends up climbing on top of the giraffe, chasing the peacocks, and making a mess in the aquarium.

Despite the chaos, the story has a happy ending. Meg and the zookeepers manage to find Mog and bring him back to safety. Mog even manages to make friends with some of the animals he met during his wild adventure. The book is a fun and engaging read for children, with its colourful illustrations and simple, easy-to-follow story. It teaches important lessons about curiosity and exploration while also emphasizing the importance of safety and following the rules.

One of the things that makes Meg and Mog so special is its distinctive artwork. Jan Pienkowski's bold, graphic illustrations are instantly recognizable with their black backgrounds and bright colours. The characters themselves are simple but expressive, with Mog's wide eyes and big grin proving particularly endearing to young readers.

Another strength of the Meg and Mog series is its accessibility. The stories are short and simple, making them perfect for younger children. At the same time, they are engaging and entertaining enough to hold the attention of older readers as well. Whether reading to a toddler or having an independent reading session with an older child, Meg and Mog is a great choice.

In addition to the stories themselves, the Meg and Mog books have inspired a variety of other media. The stories have been adapted for television, with a series airing on the BBC in the 2000s. The characters have also appeared in other merchandise, including toys and clothing.

Overall, Meg and Mog is a timeless classic that has captured the hearts of children and adults alike.
