European comic strip The Adventures of Tintin is among the most popular in print. It made its creator Georges Remi, better known as the Belgian cartoonist Hergé, one of the most influential artists in the world. His work influenced everyone from Andy Warhol to Charles de Gaulle. The comic was adapted into a movie in 2011 by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson.

The bande dessinées of The Adventures of Tintin were serialised continuously in Belgian newspaper Le Vingtième Siècle from 1929 to May 1940, when the German occupation shut the paper down. Serialisation resumed in Tintin magazine from 1948 to 1967, and Studio Hergé created the BD from 1950. A final story, Tintin and the Picaros, was serialised between 1975 and 1976. The stories were reprinted as BD albums nearly every year from 1930 to 1944 and 1948 to 1954. After this, six completed albums were released, the last in 1976.

The Adventures of Tintin follows a character called Tintin, an adventuresome and fearless wander or traveller that journeys across the world to explore the wonders we dreamed of. Along his way, he is supported by trusted friends like Captain Haddock, who is always weary but self-assertive, Professor Calculus, and the cute little dog Snowy which accompanies Tintin’s side in every new adventure, truly a devoted and loyal friend!

In each book, you explore the astonishment and awe of real places in this world, from historical locations to the wild uncharted areas, as well as fictional areas. Herge collected historical pieces combined with his imagination to create this series, and using his experience as an illustrator and storytelling he entertained many children around.
