Back-to-school season is the most daunting time of year for parents and children, regardless of age. It’s time to pack the school bags and splash out on that back-to-school essentials. Here at Books2Door, we want to make this time of year less stressful and more positive, which is why we have all of your child’s book essentials stocked up in one place at affordable prices.

Whether your child is strapping on a backpack for the first time or beginning a new academic year, the first day of school can be nerve-wracking for even the most confident pupils. The idea of transitioning to a new school and establishing a new routine can be extremely daunting at the best of times. That’s why we have curated a collection of School Stories (told by kids!) to help them overcome their school jitters. These books explore important messages about some of the big feelings your child may be experiencing as they grow and adjust to their new environment.

If you’re not sure where to start, let us give you a helping hand with some recommendations. For little ones going to school for the first time, why not check out The Colour Monster Goes to School by Anna Llenas? This book is perfect for kids aged 0-5 to help your child deal with their first-day jitters. Join the Colour Monster on a brand new adventure as he navigates his way through his first day at school! From music lessons to lunchtime and even making new friends, the Colour Monster answers all your little one’s burning questions: What exactly is school? Is it a spooky castle filled with strange and terrifying animals? Or is it a magical place in the sky amongst the rainbows and clouds? This is the ideal book for parents to read with their children to help ease their transition into school or nursery.

For older children aged 7-9+, we have some brilliant and affordable books that deal with different types of students from a range of cultures and backgrounds. At Books2Door, we understand the importance of diversity and inclusion in literature, which is why we recommend Onjali Q. Rauf’s 4 Book Collection Set (The Boy at the Back of the Class and Other Novels). This four paperback collection includes the award-winning The Boy at the Back of the Class, The Star Outside my Window, The Night Bus Hero and The Lion Above the Door. Told with heart and humour, The Boy at the Back of the Class is a child’s perspective on the refugee crisis as the new boy, Ahmet, who has fled from war back home, joins the class. This compelling story highlights the significance of friendship and kindness in a world that doesn’t always make sense.

Life can be tough for your not-so-little-ones navigating their way through secondary

school. With homework piles as big as mountains and trying to fit in and make friends, it’s not so easy being a kid. No one knows this better than everyone’s favourite middle schooler- Greg Heffley. Lucky for you, he’s done it all! Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are a household name and is considered one of the best children’s books, and zoo-wee mama is it a hit! Fans of the live-action and animated adaptations are already familiar with the daily adventures of Greg Heffley and his best friend Rowley as they traverse their way through Westmore middle school. Told through diary entries and wacky illustrations, this book explores the stresses of growing up.
