A publication with a wide range of books for children across ages; Orchard Books was founded in 1986 by Grolier as a children's publisher. Grolier, was one of the largest American Publishers of encyclopaedias, and academic books in the early 19th century. As an educational publication company; Grolier was known for its presence in school libraries and its in-home encyclopaedia sales. It also had a strong presence amongst the parents of children under six years old. In June 2000, Grolier became part of Scholastic Corporation, which now maintains Scholastic GO, formerly Grolier Online.

Redirecting back to Orchard Books publishing, now an imprint of Hachette Children’s Group, its UK branch is maintained by Hachette UK. Given Orchard Books, UK’s rich history in publishing children’s books; they have still managed to retain their title as an ace children’s book publisher with books for children of every age group.
