Known for his gothic fantasy stories, he was heavily inspired by the work of Lewis Carroll, J.R.R. Tolkien, Mary Shelley and Edgar Allen Poe. Neil Gaiman has produced novels, short stories, poetry and graphic novels. He blends mythologies, folklore, history and religion to create tales

His first novel, Good Omens, was published, in 1990 alongside legendary fantasy writer Terry Pratchett. However, before this was published Gaiman had been working on graphic novels. After seeing some of his previous comic collaborations, DC Comics hired him in 1987 and this would be where he would begin his work on The Sandman. The comic series ran for seven years, from January 1989 and concluded in March 1996.

Gaiman’s first solo novel was a novelisation of his television series Neverwhere. Released in 1996, the novel is set in London with two realms, London Above and London Below. Then, in 1999 Gaiman published Stardust, American Gods in 2001 and Anansi Boys in 2005.

He has also turned his hand to children’s literature, in 2002 Coraline was published. The novella follows young Coraline as she navigates her way through an evil alternate universe with the help of a talking cat. Gaiman’s next children's novel was The Graveyard Book, published in 2008, which follows a young boy called Bod who is adopted by the spiritual inhabitants of a graveyard after his family is killed. In 2017 Gaiman published a non-fiction retelling of several famous stories from Norse Mythology.

All of Gaiman’s works have recognisable illustration styles, he has worked closely with illustrators to ensure his characters and style are represented accurately. Gaiman’s collaboration with Chris Riddell has provided the look for Coraline and The Graveyard Book. Gaiman created an unforgettable tale of the forces that exist beyond life and death by weaving ancient mythology, folklore and fairy tales with his own distinct narrative vision. In PRELUDES and NOCTURNES, an occultist attempting to capture Death to bargain for eternal life traps her younger brother Dream instead. After his 70 year imprisonment and eventual escape, Dream, also known as Morpheus, goes on a quest for his lost objects of power. On his arduous journey Morpheus encounters Lucifer, John Constantine, and an all-powerful madman. This book also includes the story The Sound of Her Wings, which introduces us to the pragmatic and perky goth girl Death. [Good Omens] still has a lot to say about the world' Empire'Even if you're very familiar with the original novel, this is a different experience... so damned charming and quirky that it feels like a must' StarburstNeil Gaiman's glorious reinvention of the iconic bestseller Good Omens, adapted from the internationally beloved novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, launched on Amazon Prime Video this year to great acclaim. Soon to be shown on the BBC, the series is written and show-run by Neil himself and stars David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Jon Hamm and Miranda Richardson, to name but a few. Before he died, Terry Pratchett asked Neil Gaiman to make a television series of the internationally beloved novel they wrote together about the end of the world. What followed was almost... ineffable. Over six glorious episodes, Neil brought an angel, Aziraphale, and a demon, Crowley, (the only things standing between us and the inevitable Armageddon) to life in some of the most extraordinary television ever made. Here you will find the scripts that Neil wrote, containing much that is new and revelatory and even several scenes throughout that never made the final cut. For the very first time, this edition collects all the missing bits - from a certain Other Four Horsemen to a little demonic shopping trip - and reveals the secrets of the show, which, by its very nature, is known to ask for the impossible. In 2019, Neil Gaiman asked his Twitter followers: What reminds you of warmth? Over 1,000 responses later, Neil began to weave replies from across the world into a poem in aid of the UNHCR?Ts winter appeal. It revealed our shared desire to feel safe, welcome and warm in a world that can often feel frightening and lonely.
